Newcastle United’s first two signings for the summer are now official.
Lloyd Kelly has signed a five-year contract at St James’ Park, which begins today, July 1. Lewis Hall’s £28 million deal from Chelsea is also expected to be completed after the club activated an obligation to buy clause in his 2023-24 season-long loan.

Kelly came to terms and signed a contract with Newcastle last month, with his current contract at AFC Bournemouth expiring on June 30. The 25-year-old will wear the number 25 shirt for Newcastle for the 2024-25 season.

Kelly told the club website about his move: “It’s great to be coming here. I know how huge the club is and how important it is to all of the fans, and all I want to do is get started right away.

“It’s a significant move for myself and my family, and living down south is unusual, but I think Newcastle is beautiful, with the difference between city life and the countryside.

“It was not a difficult decision for me to come here. Working with the gaffer previously, I understand what he expects from his players and how he wants them to play, and I believe what I can provide makes sense. I can’t wait to get started!”

Hall will stay at Newcastle for the 2024-25 season after spending the previous season on loan from Chelsea. During his loan stay with the Magpies, the 19-year-old appeared in 22 games across all competitions and scored twice.

Despite being named as a contracted player on Chelsea’s retained list, he will now join Newcastle on a permanent basis.

Hall has modelled Newcastle’s new shirt for 2024-25 on the club’s official website. The left-back’s bio on Newcastle’s website confirms his summer transfer, albeit the length of his contract at St James’ Park has yet to be revealed.

Hall’s official club bio reads: “Capped by England at youth level, the versatile Hall spent 2023-24 on loan at St. James’ Park, making 22 appearances and scoring twice, both against Manchester United, and is set to complete a permanent move to Tyneside from Chelsea this summer.”
