John Terry Bangs BBC for Graphic After Cristiano Ronaldo Missed Euro 2024 Penalty

John Terry has lambasted the BBC for adopting a caption that insulted Cristiano Ronaldo after the Al-Nassr forward missed a penalty in extra time during Portugal’s Euro 2024 triumph against Slovenia. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak deserves credit for the incredible save he made when facing Ronaldo from 12 yards.

The Portuguese have advanced to the tournament’s last eight after defeating a tenacious Slovenian side in a tense penalty shootout. Diogo Costa was the night’s hero, being the first goalkeeper in European Championship history to save three penalty shootout attempts.

He also rescued Ronaldo’s long-time teammate, Pepe, in the second half of extra time after the former Real Madrid veteran stumbled and let teenage striker Benjamin Sesko in for goal. Costa stood up well, saving both Ronaldo and Pepe’s blushes. By that stage, the former had already missed his penalty after Liverpool’s Diogo Jota was fouled in the area.

When discussing Ronaldo’s penalty woes, the BBC displayed a caption for viewers to see. It sarcastically mocked the 39-year-old’s misfortune when the Atletico Madrid goalie stopped him.

The text read “Missiano Penaldo,” a play on words combining the superstar’s name and the fact that he missed his penalty. John Terry, in particular, took objection to this, expressing his opinions on Instagram.

Terry shared a photo of the image with the statement “BBC, this is a disgrace!” In case anyone was confused about the significance of the ex-Chelsea captain’s post, he also included a large arrow pointing to the nickname given to Ronaldo by the BBC. View this below:

He wasn’t the only one outraged by the corporation’s actions; many fans and journalists expressed their concerns about a national broadcaster publicly insulting a player. The BBC has not yet commented on the incident.

Ronaldo had struck a frustrated figure all night as the greatest striker in Euros history tried to add to his amazing total in the competition. He has already completed his first group stage of the tournament without scoring a goal.

He was even seen in tears after failing to beat Oblak from the penalty spot. The usually cool and collected forward’s impassioned outburst caught many off guard, but he would get the final laugh on the day.
