When asked if the current Arsenal duo compared to the legendary Chelsea partnership, Frank Lampard responded.
Frank Lampard was asked on Tuesday night about Arsenal’s current center-back pairing and how it compares to a legendary Chelsea partnership from the past.
There have been so many Chelsea legends born throughout the club’s long history, including on the defensive side of the pitch. In particular, former Blues players John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho once formed an iconic pairing next to each other for so long at Stamford Bridge.
We believe Terry-Carvalho is the best centre-back pairing in Premier League history. Carvalho spoke to Chelsea’s official website last year about his special relationship with Terry.

Arsenal’s defensive partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes appears to be the best in the Premier League right now. With this rock-solid defensive core, the Gunners have recently come close to winning the title.
Are William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães the new John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho?
Frank Lampard, a Chelsea legend, has spoken about Arsenal’s defensive pairing of Saliba and Gabriel.
Interestingly, he was asked on Amazon Prime Video (7:42am, 1 October) if the Arsenal duo are comparable to his former teammates Terry and Carvalho.
Lampard replied, “No.” Not yet. If they win two or three Premier League titles and a Champions League, perhaps you can compare them. I am not putting them down. They’re fantastic.
“That’s not a fair comparison. At this point, no. They’re doing great things right now. “Win some stuff, boys, and you’ll be able to join that conversation.”
The current Chelsea defence
Chelsea currently lacks a backline comparable to Arsenal’s. However, there should be some optimism about the new look at the Bridge this season.
Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill have recently formed a new partnership at centre-half. On paper, it has an excellent balance of speed, strength, and ball quality. Tosin Adarabioyo also provides decent competition and cover.
If the Blues are to win again, Enzo Maresca’s side will need to tighten up their defence and build on these relationships.
