Arsenal’s £325,000-a-week star is ‘not doing enough’ after Arteta’s snub.

Chris Sutton has slammed Raheem Sterling, accusing him of failing to perform in training for Arsenal after being repeatedly disregarded by Mikel Arteta this season.

On deadline day, the former England international joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Chelsea, as Arteta sought to strengthen his offensive options ahead of a potential title challenge.

However, Sterling has only played a few minutes in the Premier League and Champions League this season, and his appearances off the bench have been unimpressive, with his solitary goal for the club coming in a Carabao Cup win over Bolton.

Sutton: Sterling is not doing enough.Arsenal's Raheem Sterling applauds fans

Sterling was an unused substitute in Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle United, despite the Gunners failing to score and utilizing all five substitutions, and Sutton discussed the subject on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast.

“I don’t believe you have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. He’s clearly not accomplishing or impressing enough.

“It has to be in training and not take the eye. Because, when you strip everything back, you realize Arsenal is struggling in the last third. This is an issue. It’s been an issue this season. And you think, certainly Raheem Sterling could come on and change the game, create a chance, and give them some momentum. That is not the case.

“So he’s not getting on, but the fact that five substitutes come on ahead of him is pretty telling.” So that is something to keep an eye on.”

So far this season, the 29-year-old has made only two Premier League starts, with two substitute appearances, for a total of 123 minutes of action, and has failed to score or assist. Sterling has also made just two substitute appearances in the Champions League this season, totaling 39 minutes.

Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, and Bukayo Saka appear to be ahead of Sterling in the pecking order and could start against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
