If Ederson signs a new contract with Manchester City, backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega may leave the club, according to Football Insider sources.

The Brazil international shot-stopper is reportedly in negotiations with the Etihad Stadium about a new contract.

Ederson, 31, is coveted by Saudi Pro League clubs but has remained with Manchester City despite interest during the most recent summer window.

He has appeared in every Premier League game this season, but has been replaced by Ortega, 31, in four League Cup and Champions League games.

According to sources, the two, who are both out of contract in June 2026, have mutually beneficial futures.

The City star is thought to be considering a return to Germany as a first-choice shot-stopper.

Ortega might quit Manchester City if Ederson signs a new contract.
If Ederson signs a new contract to be City’s number one goalkeeper, Ortega is increasingly likely to move in the upcoming transfer window.

The former Arminia Bielefeld and 1860 Munich player appeared 20 times in all competitions last season as Pep Guardiola’s team won the Premier League, conceding 20 goals and preserving eight clean sheets.

He effectively sealed City’s title with a key one-on-one stop against Tottenham’s Heung-min Son in May.

Ederson has been with the Manchester giants since 2017 and has won six Premier League titles and a Champions League with them, appearing in 344 games in all competitions.

In other news, Manchester City has laid aside finances for two major January transfers.
