When asked how he would respond as a manager if one of his players had done the same, the former Blues told talkSPORT’s Inside Chelsea: “I’d be furious.”

“Listen, there may have been mitigating circumstances that occurred prior to this incident; you never know.”

“Sometimes players have minor aches and pains and complain about them before pretending they’re heading down the tunnel because they’re hurt.

“But no, I’d be angry, and I believe we have a manager that would address it right away, as the finest ones do.

“It is disrespectful not only to your teammates, but also to the fans.

“We’re all sitting there, watching the game, and someone doesn’t want to watch because they won’t be on the pitch at the end.

“But it’s not the first time we’ve seen it with football players around the country, and listen, if it’s resolved swiftly, as I believe the finest managers do.

“Get it nailed down; probably in the dressing room, I would have grabbed him right away, that’s what I would have done personally. Maybe I’d summoned him back up the tube.”
