Pedro Lima, an aspiring Brazilian, is being courted by Blues.
Lima as they prepare to replace Reece James in the long run.
According to the report, Chelsea and the player’s agency have started discussions on a possible relocation to West London. The Blues, however, have competition as Lima is being observed by “scouts from all over the world” and has also been linked to a move to Manchester City.
Lima presently plays for Sport Recife in Serie B, whose manager Joao Marcelo Barros stated that the team is very interested in signing Lima. According to quotes, he said the following:
Chelsea is seeking to complete another low-risk deal in order to address their right-back issues, having lately made significant investments in the acquisition of younger players from South America.
According to the article, Lima may be a “possible Reece James replacement.” The Chelsea captain has had a terrible injury history, missing much of this season.
According to FIFA regulations, teams may recruit players who are younger than 18; however, they cannot formally join the squad until they are of legal age.
In Pedro Lima’s situation, he turns 18 on July 1st of this year, making him eligible to play in Chelsea’s preseason and be on their squad in 2024–2025 if he were to sign with the club.
hough it is initially unforeseen that he will make the breakthrough into the starting eleven, Reece James can mentor him and prepare him to take over the reigns in the next few years.
The England right-back’s fitness will be particularly important to alleviate pressure off Lima’s shoulders if he is indeed to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.
He is not the only South American the Blues are keeping tabs on. The report says they also want to sign the in-demand Estevao Willian for a fee rumoured to reach £53 million so it could be a double swoop on the Brazilian market.
