Celtic and Rangers are both ‘interested’ in ex-Leeds United superstar amid appealing loan possibilities.

Celtic and Rangers are reportedly interested in a Premier League player looking to rehabilitate his reputation. That player is Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder whose career has declined since moving from Leeds United to Manchester City for £45 million.

The former Leeds player was once a major figure for England, but limited appearances at City and bad recent loan performances with West Ham United have seen him fall out of favour at both club and international level. Phillips did not agree with Pep Guardiola at City, and he was always going to struggle for minutes behind Rodri, who is arguably the best player in the world in his position.

In January, the midfielder signed on loan with West Ham United, but he struggled to find regular playing time in David Moyes’ side. City is expected to offload Phillips this summer, and they are aware that they will lose a huge amount of money on their large investment.

According to HITC, Celtic and Rangers are interested in a trade, but any move will most likely be on loan, with City apparently offering to cover the majority of his salary next season. Celtic will seek to add quality to their midfielder ahead of a Champions League challenge next season, while Rangers will look to boost their title chances. Sky Sports has stated that Everton are also interested, with Sean Dyche previously attempting to buy him at Burnley.

Dyche previously stated on the 28-year-old, “I thought he was a very good player then and he’s a very good player now.” “He’s progressed since then and continues to do so, so congratulations to him. Your scouts are out collecting information, scurrying around, and occasionally one captures your attention. He was one for me; I don’t think my staff liked him as much, but I had a strong feeling about him.

“I was fairly strong on that one, and I thought he would have been a terrific fit for us, but we were unable to do the deal. The chairman at the moment refused to invest the necessary funds. Unfortunately, he was out of our budget. That is how it goes, and he has shown himself. He’s a player who I predicted would continue to progress, and he has. I liked him then and I like him now; I believe he is a really excellent player who has proven it. It doesn’t need me to say it; he’s demonstrated it.”

Phillips stated in February that his time at City was not a nightmare, but rather difficult. We won the triple. But when you’re sitting on the bench, you don’t feel like it’s your medal to take; yet, they can’t take them away from me, which makes me happy!
