Dan Friedkin, the owner of AS Roma, has agreed to buy Everton, the Premier League club.

Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is set to grant exclusivity to AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin for the sale of the club within the next 48 hours. Friedkin, who bought Serie A heavyweights Roma in 2020, has an estimated wealth of $6.1 billion (£4.8 billion).

Dan Friedkin, the owner of AS Roma, has reached an agreement with Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri to buy the club.

Last week, Sky Sports News reported that Friedkin had made an offer to Moshiri, which has now been approved.

Moshiri was locked into an exclusive agreement with failing US investment firm 777 Partners until May 31, and could not engage in alternative conversations.

But Moshiri is now set to offer Friedkin exclusivity within the next 48 hours.

Friedkin, who purchased Serie A heavyweights Roma in 2020, is worth an estimated $6.1 billion (£4.8 billion).

What happened to our arrangement with 777 Partners?
In September, the Miami-based investment fund announced that it had inked an agreement with British-Iranian billionaire Moshiri to acquire his 94.1% share in the club.

The transaction, which was originally scheduled to close by the end of 2023, was postponed because 777 Partners apparently struggled to meet the Premier League’s purchase terms.

However, Everton announced in May that the agreement between 777 Partners and Blue Heaven Holdings Limited to sell and purchase the club’s controlling interest had expired.

“The club’s board of directors recognises the considerable level of financial support 777 Partners has provided the club over recent months and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for this.”

Moshiri, a former Arsenal shareholder, first acquired a 49.9% interest in Everton in 2016. By January 2022, he had raised his ownership to 94.1% following a £100 million capital infusion.

Despite spent around £650 million in acquisitions to strengthen the squad since Moshiri’s arrival, Everton has fallen out of the top half of the table in recent seasons, forcing them to fight relegation.

The club finished 15th in the Premier League after receiving two different points reductions for violating profit and sustainability regulations.

When is the summer transfer window open and closed?
The English and Scottish summer transfer windows for 2024 are now officially open.

The window will close on August 30 at 11 p.m., UK time.

The Premier League has moved Deadline Day ahead to coincide with the other major leagues in Europe. The closing dates were determined after discussions with the leagues of England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.
