Scottish giants are’shocked and saddened’ as Cameroonian Football Federation confirms passing of the former Nancy and Bordeaux great.

Celtic have paid respect to their former star, Landry N’Guemo, following his death.

The former midfielder died this week at the age of 38 after being involved in a car accident in Cameroon.

While on loan from French side Nancy, N’Guemo made over 40 appearances for Celtic in all competitions during the 2009/10 season under Tony Mowbray.

“Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened by the news of Landry N’Guemo’s passing at the young age of 38,” the Scottish club said in a statement.

“The Cameroonian midfielder joined Celtic on loan from French club Nancy in the summer of 2009. He made more than 43 games for the Celts before returning to his parent club in 2010.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic Football Club are with Landry’s family and friends at this sad time.”

N’Guemo started his career at Nancy and spent six years at Stade Marcel Picot, including his final season on loan with Celtic. He won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2006.

He eventually moved to Bordeaux for three years, briefly playing for Saint-Etienne before spending time in Turkey with Akhisar Belediyespor and Kayserispor.

N’Guemo also played for Kongsvinger in Norway and earned over 40 senior caps for the Cameroon national team, scoring three goals and finishing second to the Indomitable Lions at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, before retiring from football in 2019 and coaching for Nancy.

“The Cameroonian Football Federation has just learned the tragic news of former Indomitable Lion Landry Nguemo’s passing in a traffic accident,” the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) announced in a statement.

“Nguemo, a notable player for the Cameroonian national team from 2006 to 2014 and a former member of Girondins de Bordeaux, will be known for his football contributions.

“FECAFOOT extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community.”
