Arsenal are apparently keeping a close eye on the signing of Ajax wonderkid Jorrel Hato, with their interest in him increasing significantly.

The 18-year-old, who can play as a centre-back or left-back, appears to be another tremendous talent rising from Ajax’s youth and making his way into the first squad.

According to Spanish site Fichajes, the Gunners are willing to go all out to sign Hato, with the Netherlands international apparently rated highly by the north London giants, despite the fact that they already have plenty of defensive skill and depth.

Arsenal added Riccardo Calafiori this summer, a player with a similar style to Hato, and Jurrien Timber from Ajax the previous year, another flexible and astute defender.

It is debatable whether Arsenal really need Hato as a priority right now, with many fans believing there are more pressing needs in attack as Mikel Arteta lacks depth behind Kai Havertz, with Eddie Nketiah departing this summer and Gabriel Jesus struggling with fitness and form.

Midfield could also be a source of concern for Arsenal shortly, as both Jorginho and Thomas Partey are out of contract at the end of the season, with neither player growing any younger and likely in need of replacement sooner rather than later.

Still, Hato appears to be a great talent, and it makes logical that AFC would want to sign him ahead of other teams, with Arteta maybe looking ahead to the future, as he may soon want players younger than Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White as possibilities in his back four.

Charles Watts previously talked with CaughtOffside about Arsenal’s desire for Hato, saying: “Arsenal has been working on a possible switch for Hato for some time now, and even though he recently agreed to a new contract with Ajax, I wouldn’t rule out Arsenal firming up their interest in the young defender once the summer window opens.”

“He is mindful of Arsenal’s interest, as are Ajax, so it’s one that is worth watching.”
