BREAKING: Montreal Canadiens Lock In Jake Evans with Blockbuster Four-Year Extension!
The Montreal Canadiens have secured the services of center Jake Evans for the foreseeable future, announcing a four-year contract extension valued at $11.4 million. This agreement, which carries an average annual value of $2.85 million, will keep Evans with the team through the 2028-29 NHL season.
Evans, 28, has been a consistent contributor for the Canadiens this season, recording 12 goals and 16 assists for a total of 28 points over 61 games. Since being selected by Montreal in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Draft, Evans has amassed 39 goals and 81 assists, totaling 120 points across 329 career NHL games.
Prior to this extension, Evans was in the final year of a three-year, $5.1 million contract that carried an average annual salary of $1.7 million. The new deal represents a significant raise, reflecting his value as a versatile forward who contributes in all situations.
Negotiations between Evans and the Canadiens had been ongoing, with reports indicating that Evans’ camp initially sought a five-year contract at $4 million per season. The finalized four-year agreement suggests a compromise that benefits both parties, ensuring stability for Evans and cost certainty for the Canadiens.
Evans’ journey to the NHL began with the Mississauga Rebels of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, followed by two seasons with the St. Michael’s Buzzers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. He then committed to the University of Notre Dame, where he played collegiate hockey before signing his entry-level contract with Montreal in 2018.
This extension underscores the Canadiens’ confidence in Evans’ abilities and their commitment to maintaining a competitive roster in the seasons to come.
