Breaking News: Seahawks Dismiss Two Players Due To Thier Fights In Practice…….
Seahawks Trim Practice Squad, Waive Two Players
Seattle, WA – February 21, 2025 – The Seattle Seahawks announced Friday that they have waived two players from their practice squad: cornerback Ryan Cooper and wide receiver Cornell Powell.
Both Cooper and Powell had been with the Seahawks practice squad during the 2024 season and had signed reserve/future contracts with the team after the season concluded. These contracts are essentially placeholders, allowing teams to retain players for the offseason and have them readily available for the following season.
Cooper, an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State, originally signed with the Baltimore Ravens after the 2024 NFL Draft. He was waived by the Ravens in November and subsequently joined the Seahawks practice squad for the remainder of the season.
Powell, a fifth-round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021, played in three games for the Chiefs in 2022 but has yet to record an NFL catch. He was signed to the Seahawks practice squad after being released by the Chiefs.
The Seahawks’ decision to waive Cooper and Powell likely opens up spots on their practice squad for other players they may want to evaluate or sign during the offseason. It’s a common practice for teams to make adjustments to their practice squad rosters throughout the year as they assess talent and prepare for the upcoming season.
