Christopher Nkunku (26) has had a difficult transition since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. In his debut season at Stamford Bridge, he made only 14 appearances in all competitions due to an injury that kept him out for 242 days.

However, Nkunku does not consider his debut season at Chelsea was the most tough of the year. “The hardest period was when I missed the World Cup,” the Frenchman stated in a news conference reported by Get French Football News. Nkunku, who was at RB Leipzig at the time, was called up by Didier Deschamps for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but was hurt in pre-tournament training with Les Bleus and had to withdraw due to a knee ailment.

‘Injuries are behind me,’ says Nkunku
Injuries plagued Nkunku’s debut season in the Premier League. “I’ve gone through some tough times psychologically. “These are also adventures that make you stronger, and I learned to understand my body, as well as patience and resilience,” added Chelsea.

Nkunku is regaining his greatest form this season, scoring seven goals in 11 games despite not being a definite starter under new manager Enzo Maresca. “I’m rediscovering my level. In terms of rhythm, it will develop with game time,” stated the Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate.

He continued, “I want to remain and perform. It is one of my ambitions. My injuries are behind me. The goal is to maintain fitness and excellent health.
