The Italian manager was appointed following Chelsea’s disappointing performance last season, when they placed sixth in the Premier League.
A number of players have joined the club, including two key arrivals, Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
According to The Mirror, the incoming manager has hinted that one of the present players, Ben Chilwell, would not be part of his plans for next season.
Chilwell has had fitness concerns at the club..
Ben Chilwell is not in the Chelsea manager’s plans for the upcoming season.
Speaking to the press before of their pre-season friendly against Wrexham, the Chelsea manager stated:
“In these weeks, we experiment with several situations [including inversion]. We tried [Reece] James inside. I watched his games [for Wigan Athletic on loan] against, I don’t know who, when he was playing as a midfielder. Malo [Gusto] is attempting to do so. Renato [Veiga] and Marc [Cucurella] are both capable of doing so. We’ll explore other scenarios.”
Maresca was discussing his full-backs playing in midfield when Chelsea had possession of the ball, and he did not mention Chilwell.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea is considering allowing Chilwell leave the club in order to offload his wages.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Romelu Lukaku, Malang Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Cesare Casadei, and David Datro Fofana are all leaving the club because the Blues do not see him as part of their long-term ambitions.
The former Leicester defender has no future at Chelsea.
Chilwell might now join those players in leaving the club, as the manager did not mention him while discussing his plans for next season.
His fitness difficulties have impacted his career at Stamford Bridge, pushing him down the pecking order for England’s left-back position.
The defender joined the Blues for a large fee and was anticipated to become one of their most important players, but his career has failed to advance, and Chelsea are now trying to cash in on him.
