Despite the racial controversy generated by Enzo Fernandez, Enzo Maresca believes he will have no trouble welcoming him back to Chelsea next week.

Fernandez was accused of “uninhibited racism” by Chelsea teammate Wesley Fofana after sharing a video of Argentina players singing a racist and homophobic song.

The incident threatens to fracture the Chelsea dressing room, but Maresca has defended Fernandez and is convinced that the squad will not split.

Fernandez has apologized to his teammates both publicly and individually, and he will see them in person when he joins the Chelsea group on their pre-season tour of America on Monday.

Chelsea has stated that “an internal disciplinary procedure” is being investigated, and FIFA is also looking into the issue.

Maresca told his first press conference as Chelsea manager overnight: “At the end of the day, they are all human beings. None of them have evil intentions.

“I don’t think we’ll have any issues until Enzo returns. The player and club have clarified the matter. It’s excellent that the athlete made the statement of apology. The club did the same thing. There is nothing to contribute to the issue. It’s plain and concise.

“He is not a horrible person. This is something that can happen. I don’t see any problems at all.”

In a separate interview with ESPN, Maresca described Fernandez as a “good guy, person, and human being.” There was no malicious intention

Chelsea captain Reece James said: “Enzo admitted he made a mistake and apologized to the club and team.

“I’ve spoken with Enzo and everyone involved, but those conversations must remain private.
