Chelsea is in need of a new striker, and it is commonly known that they intend to sign a new attacker this summer.

Their present attacking option, Nicolas Jackson, is not ideal for new manager Enzo Maresca, who is looking for a striker to complement his football style.

The Blues have been associated with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, but there has been no action on that front, and their interest in the attacking combination is not concrete at this time.

Chelsea have agreed to purchase Aston Villa’s Colombian striker Jhon Duran.

However, according to journalist Guillermo Arango, Chelsea manager Maresca opposes this signing and want someone else to head his assault next season.

He stated that Jhon Durán’s deal to Chelsea is “on standby.” Despite the agreement between parties, new coach Enzo Maresca wants a forward with different characteristics, therefore the signing of the Colombian, who has bids from other clubs (AC Milan, Bologna), is on hold for the time being.”

The Blues have a positive relationship with Aston Villa, who recently acquired defender Ian Maatsen from Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen what Duran’s future holds, and whether Maresca will allow him to join the club.

The Aston Villa striker would be a cheaper choice than Toney, Osimhen, or the lately mentioned Newcastle United player Alexander Isak.

It makes sense for the Chelsea manager to make it plain to the club what type of attacker he is seeking for.

Involving the manager in the transfer process and giving him the right to make new acquisitions is urgently needed at Stamford Bridge, especially considering what happened with former manager Mauricio Pochettino.
