Dolphins RB De’Von Achane Fires Back at Tyreek Hill’s Call for More ‘Dogs’ on the Roster—But Is He Ignoring a Harsh Reality?
In a recent exchange highlighting differing perspectives within the Miami Dolphins, running back De’Von Achane responded to wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s assertion that the team needs to “add some ‘dogs'” to the roster to enhance competitiveness. Hill, who experienced missing the playoffs for the first time in his career this season, expressed his frustration during a livestream, emphasizing the need to “put some pressure on motherf—-rs” and “add some motherf—–g dogs” to the team.
Achane, however, offered a contrasting viewpoint during an appearance on the “Up and Adams” podcast. He stated, “We got dogs. We just need more people to bring it out. You know what I’m saying?” He further elaborated, “I wouldn’t say we need more, as in, like, got to get other people. … We know what we’re capable of. If we’re all on, I feel like we’re a hard team to beat.”
The Dolphins concluded the 2024 season with an 8-9 record, marking their first losing season since 2019. The team’s performance was notably impacted by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s absence due to injuries in six games, leading to a decline from their top-ranked offense in 2023 to a more average standing in 2024. Reflecting on the season, Achane acknowledged, “We knew as a team that we dug ourselves in this hole. It sucks that the season ended when we started getting it together. It’d helped if we figured it out earlier. Season would have been better.”
Achane’s performance this season was a bright spot for the Dolphins. The 23-year-old running back led the team’s ground attack, amassing 907 rushing yards and six touchdowns, along with 592 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions.
This exchange between Hill and Achane underscores a broader discussion within the team regarding the balance between acquiring new talent and maximizing the potential of existing players. As the Dolphins prepare for the upcoming season, internal perspectives like these will play a crucial role in shaping the team’s strategy and addressing the challenges that led to their recent underperformance.
