Enzo Maresca faces possibly the most difficult test of his short Chelsea career to yet against Liverpool on Sunday, and he recently gave some tactical insight into how the Blues will approach the match.

Chelsea are now fourth with 14 points from a possible 21 and have not lost a game since the season’s start, while Liverpool are the early leaders under Arne Slot.

Maresca was a surprising hire, and he recently explained why he had no reservations about taking the Chelsea post in the summer.

Chelsea’s young team will face their toughest test this weekend against Liverpool, who are winless in their past nine matches and have not won at Anfield since 2021.

Maresca will need Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Nicolas Jackson to step up, and he spoke before of the game about how the Blues might approach it.

“Absolutely. As you mentioned, it’s a pleasant place. Anfield is amazing, but we’re going to try to go there, play football, and win points,” he told the Stadium Astro YouTube channel.

“We always provide our best effort. As I previously stated, we occasionally plan the game, but the other team also plans the game, so you may suffer more at times than others. But, ultimately, the team’s intentions must be the same.”

Chelsea has been quite good moving forward this season, creating many chances, and you would expect them to approach this game similarly.

There’s always a risk that teams would retreat into their shells at Anfield, but this young Chelsea team appears courageous, and Maresca appears to be the type of manager who would not be afraid to take the game to Liverpool while sticking to the principles that have worked him well thus far.
