Everton have now launched a bid for the ‘amazing’ £75k-per-week midfielder.
Everton appears to be bidding on anyone and everyone, but this is only what we are seeing.
Looking a little deeper, this summer has most certainly been years in the making, with Kevin Thelwell and Sean Dyche having to negotiate PSR upheaval to determine when they would be allowed to spend again.
Last season’s two-point deduction was unexpected, but it seemed like a necessary evil to accept the sanction and go on.
And they’ve moved on, with a slew of targets for the Toffees to grab.
Everton submits bid for Wilfred Ndidi.
Given that Everton has made one bid for Davinson Sanchez this summer and has already signed three new players, it is incredible how busy Thelwell has been.
He advised fans to expect few incomings and significant sales, but here we are, jumping from transfer news to transfer story.
The most recent information comes from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who has outlined a blow to the Toffees on the market.
After submitting a proposal, the player’s response was rapid, and Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City is now set to sign a new contract at the King Power Stadium.
He wrote: ‘Despite a bid from #EvertonFC, Wilfried Ndidi has decided to stay at Leicester City. News is expected to be confirmed by #LCFC in the next days. Confirmed.’
Wilfred Ndidi might have made a good Idrissa Gueye replacement.
Although he is not a young man, at 27 years old, he is still in the early stages of his career, as opposed to the 34-year-old Idrissa Gana Gueye.
After all, the Senegal international has seen it all, having been relegated with Aston Villa, playing European football with Everton (for the first time), leaving for big money to play alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain, only to return to Goodison Park to fight for his Premier League place once more.
He is the epitome of a modern-day professional, never losing sight of his work ethic no matter who he is up against and always stepping up in crucial times.
Since his transfer to Merseyside, he has rapidly established himself as one of the division’s best tacklers.
Ironically, he sat at the summit with a particular Ndidi for Leicester City.
Squawka once tweeted: “Wilfred Ndidi and Idrissa Gueye have combined for 696 tackles since the start of 2017/18.” Wilfred Ndidi (372). Idrissa Gueye (324). Elite ball-winners.
Neither has slowed down in the many years since then, with the £75k-a-week Nigerian impressing once more last season, and his previous manager, Brendan Rodgers, once claiming: “He is an incredible player.” The attacking players receive the accolades, while he does the dirty job.
Missing out on him is a disappointment, especially given Gueye’s age and limited time at the pinnacle of the sport.
