After helping Union Berlin avoid relegation on the last day of the season, Brenden Aaronson’s stint there looks to be coming to an end. This summer, he will rejoin Leeds United.

Aside from the amazing moments when Leeds secured a spot in the playoff final at Wembley, those who are out on loan are also witnessing the end of their seasons.

Brenden Aaronson of Union Berlin knew going into the weekend’s last Bundesliga match that his team needed to win in order to avoid facing the relegation playoffs.

Union needed to climb out of the bottom three in a match against Freiburg on the last day of the season, and their prospects were enhanced by Bochum’s defeat.

Union took the lead in the 68th minute after a well-executed goal by Benedict Hollerbach, set up by Aaronson. It was an exciting finish to the match.

Ritsu Doan put Union up in the 85th minute, but a penalty kick in stoppage time clinched the victory. Kevin Volland’s first attempt was unsuccessful, and Janik Harberer capitalized on the rebound to score the winning goal.

Union Berlin is spared the dreaded two-leg relegation playoff matchup against third-place in the second division as a consequence of this outcome.
