Four Newcastle targets go public following a transfer meeting – The Athletic
According to The Athletic, Newcastle United intend to spend a’significant’ portion of their summer budget on a right winger and have discussed targets during recent recruitment negotiations.
According to Chris Waugh, four names have been discussed: Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville.
There will undoubtedly be other targets under consideration, but it is evident that the club intends to bring in an improvement on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy after spending the last two transfer windows reinforcing our left side following an £80 million purchase on Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.
Olise and Bowen are both Premier League veterans who would add significant quality to the team. The Palace player is understood to have a release clause of less than £60 million, but he is a wanted man with interest from the majority of the ‘big six.’
Bowen scored 20 goals for the Hammers last season and was targeted while at Hull City. However, he would not come cheap, and it is unclear how much we would spend on a player who would turn 28 later this year.
Summerville is a slightly surprising link because he primarily plays on the left for Leeds, but he frequently cuts in on the right. He scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists last season and is expected to leave Elland Road after they failed.
Then there’s Williams, who has had his greatest season yet with Athletic Bilbao and has been studied by Toon scouts for the past two seasons. The 21-year-old will represent Spain at Euro 2024 after scoring eight goals and assisting 17 times during the 2023/24 season.
As for attackers, The Athletic reports that Newcastle had already approached Benjamin Sesko, but the RB Leipzig star is expected to sign elsewhere.
