Given what transpired at Everton, I expected Lee Carsley to be a better manager than Mikel Arteta.
Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs discussed his time in the dressing room with Lee Carsley and another potential top manager, Mikel Arteta.
Alan Stubbs believed Lee Carsley had more management potential than Mikel Arteta when he was playing. The former Everton defender, who shared the Blues dressing room with both, claimed Carsley’s organisational abilities always hinted at a career in the game when he retired.
Both are now at the peak of their games, with Carsley as interim England manager and Arteta contending for glory with Arsenal.
Stubbs stated, “Having played with both Lee Carsley and Mikel Arteta, if you asked me which of the two was destined to be a manager, I would have picked Lee Carsley every day of the week over Mikel.”

“Lee was a fantastic lad. Great in the locker room and an excellent organiser on the field. Mikel was also excellent in the locker room and on the field, but to me, he exuded the atmosphere of a coach rather than a manager.”
Carsley’s future is often questioned as he occupies the England role until the FA decides who should be Gareth Southgate’s permanent replacement. The 50-year-old, who led England’s Under-21s to the European Championships, will manage the senior team’s Nations League matches against Greece and Finland during the international break.
When asked if he could imagine Carsley getting the job full-time Stubbs, speaking to BestBettingSites.com, expressed his hope and stated, “Lee has gone about his business in the coaching world discreetly. He’s a dedicated worker with a low-key attitude who is constantly growing and becoming a better boss. He began coaching at Coventry before moving on to Brentford, where he oversaw the development squad. His success with several England young teams has led to his current position as England manager.
“Lee understands that this is a transitory role. He understands that this is an opportunity to impress the FA and maybe be considered for the full-time position. Lee is a conscientious and effective coach. He will be surrounded by excellent people. Lee is one of those characters that I don’t believe will want to stick around just for the purpose of it. He’ll want to know where he stands in terms of getting the position full-time, and after the next round of matches, I wouldn’t be shocked if he asks if he’ll get the job permanently or not, especially if everything goes well.”
