“I don’t agree” – Enzo Maresca responds to a growing narrative about Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca has responded to allegations that Chelsea are conceding easy goals as they prepare to face Panathinaikos in the Conference League on Thursday night.

The Blues suffered their second defeat of the season last weekend against Liverpool, and they have conceded ten goals in their first eight league games.

Last season, the Blues conceded a club record number of league goals under Mauricio Pochettino, and this is an area where they must improve if they are to advance as a team.

Maresca does not believe Chelsea are conceding easy goals.

Former Chelsea defender Pat Nevin feels a dearth of top-tier centre backs will prevent the Blues from competing for the Premier League title.

At Anfield, the defence appeared nervous, with Levi Colwill handing away a penalty and Tosin Adarabioyo having a poor performance.

Robert Sanchez is a problem in goal, and while Maresca insisted after the Liverpool game that he was quite pleased with the Spaniard, he should have done much better with Curtis Jones’ winning goal.

More changes are expected at the back for the encounter against Panathinaikos, with Benoit Badiashile likely to partner Tosin Adarabioyo as the Blues attempt to keep a clean sheet.

However, speaking before the game, Maresca refuted reports that his team is conceding easy goals, as reported by Football London.

“I disagree that we are allowing simple goals. I believe we are conceding goals like the other clubs. Tomorrow, with a full stadium, maybe we won’t concede any goals.”

While many of Chelsea’s goals have been the result of individual errors, the Blues have also conceded goals from set pieces that they could have handled much better, and Maresca will be hoping for a clean sheet on Thursday night.

It’s nice to be able to outscore opponents, and the Blues can do so with their attacking talent, but this club must learn to win games 1-0, since the attack will not always be able to save them.
