‘I’d be seething,’ ex-Chelsea coach Jody Morris says of his reaction to Noni Madueke’s ‘disrespectful’ gesture.
And it didn’t sit well with former Chelsea player and assistant manager, Morris. talksport
His antics were noticed by the crowd at Stamford Bridge, and Morris, who had previously been Chelsea’s assistant manager, was dissatisfied with the winger’s actions.
When asked how he would respond as a manager if one of his players had done the same, the former Blues told talkSPORT’s Inside Chelsea: “I’d be furious.”
“Listen, there may have been mitigating circumstances that occurred prior to this incident; you never know.”
“Sometimes players have minor aches and pains and complain about them before pretending they’re heading down the tunnel because they’re hurt.
“But no, I’d be angry, and I believe we have a manager that would address it right away, as the finest ones do.
“It is disrespectful not only to your teammates, but also to the fans.
“We’re all sitting there, watching the game, and someone doesn’t want to watch because they won’t be on the pitch at the end.
“But it’s not the first time we’ve seen it with football players around the country, and listen, if it’s resolved swiftly, as I believe the finest managers do.
“Get it nailed down; probably in the dressing room, I would have grabbed him right away, that’s what I would have done personally. Maybe I’d summoned him back up the tube.”
Madueke earned his ninth Premier League start in a row against Arsenal.
However, in the 68th minute, Enzo Maresca removed him and replaced him with Mykhailo Mudryk.
Pedro Neto moved to the right side, where Madueke had previously played.
Just two minutes later, Neto leveled for the hosts, securing a point for his team.
Chelsea is now third in the table based on goal differential after 11 matches.
They remain above of London rivals Arsenal, but are nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
