‘I’ll be honest with you’ – Arsenal veteran Thierry Henry confesses he doubted Bukayo Saka’s ability as Gunners player comes up clutch against PSG.
Arsenal veteran Thierry Henry said that he doubted Bukayo Saka’s talent throughout his blossoming years as the Gunners star came clutch against PSG.
Saka, who took over as captain in Martin Odegaard’s absence, played a key role in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League triumph over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). During the Champions League broadcast on CBS Sports, Henry remarked on Saka’s extraordinary ascension, admitting that he had not anticipated the forward reaching such heights.
“I saw him at the academy and I didn’t think he would be that good, I’ll be honest with you,” Henry admitted. “I saw him at the academy and, to be honest, I didn’t expect him to be that excellent. But when you work, you have that work ethic, and you have a good family to support you, because I know the family, and he is clever and works hard. I witnessed a player accomplish his level, because he is currently at a level that is difficult to achieve. If I recall correctly, he has been there for over three years.
The Arsenal legend emphasized Saka’s commitment and dedication, which have given him a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dependable players.
He added: “At the European Championship (with England), they asked him to play wing-back, and he does. He defends his right-back by going wide, left, and behind, and he does so without complaint. He participates in every single game. He competed in the Carabao Cup and the first round of the FA Cup immediately following the World Cup. It will be a dream for a full-back to have a guy like him in front of them, defending like that and going on the counter; he makes everyone’s job simpler.”
Arsenal’s unbeaten streak in all competitions now stands at nine matches after defeating PSG. Arsenal moved up to eighth place in the group standings after defeating PSG, providing a critical boost in their chase of European success.
What’s next for Arsenal?
Arteta’s players will try to build on this momentum as they return to Premier League action against Southampton. The encounter provides an opportunity for the Gunners to extend their unbeaten streak to ten games as they compete with Manchester City and Liverpool for the English Premier League crown.
