John Terry feels Chelsea’s current Premier League record may never be broken.

While the current Blues squad is young and inexperienced, Stamford Bridge has produced some amazing teams in the past. In particular, the London club has emerged as a force in the twenty-first century.

John Terry is one of many Chelsea legends who played for the club during its golden era. Surprisingly, the retiring defender won 15 major titles with them after progressing through the academy.

Chelsea’s record from the 2004/2005 season
Chelsea established an unbelievable defensive record in the Premier League two decades ago, which is still standing today.

Chelsea won the division title in 2004/05, Jose Mourinho’s debut season at the club, with only 15 goals conceded.

It helped that Terry and Ricardo Carvalho formed a centre-back pairing, with Petr Cech in goal.

It’s telling that this modern-day Chelsea side has conceded eight goals in its first seven games. Paul Merson recently told Sky Sports that Chelsea’s defence should stop playing so much out of the back.

Terry pondered this week on the Chelsea team that established the record for the fewest goals conceded in a single Premier League season. Interestingly, he doubts any team will ever be able to concede fewer in a 38-game season.

He posted on Instagram, “I recently received this list of the 15 goals we conceded in 2004/05, and I can’t help but be upset while still feeling pleased to be a part of such a wonderful squad. Going over the games and goals in my brain, I believe this should be 10 or less. Records are meant to be broken, but I doubt 15 Premier League goals conceded will ever be surpassed.

We’ll see if any team can match Chelsea’s defensive record of allowing the fewest goals.

For what it’s worth, Liverpool have conceded only two goals in their first seven Premier League games. Following the international break, they will host free-scoring Chelsea.
