Manchester City aim to sign Kevin De Bruyne’replacement’ as £60 million release clause is’ready’ to be triggered.
Manchester City are allegedly interested in signing RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, even if Kevin De Bruyne remains at the Etihad Stadium this summer.
De Bruyne is in the final year of his contract at Etihad Stadium, and there is conjecture over his future with the Blues. According to reports, Saudi Pro League clubs are scouting the Belgian, with Al Ittihad reportedly reaching a’verbal agreement’ with the 33-year-old.
Whether the attacking midfielder stays or leaves this summer, Pep Guardiola and City are well aware that De Bruyne’s days as the team’s first-choice playmaker are numbered. According to Give Me Sport, this is why the Blues are still eager to exercise the release provision in Olmo’s contract.
The Spaniard performed excellently for his country at Euro 2024, which will only increase City’s interest in the 26-year-old. It is understood that a price of £51 million is required to trigger the release clause in his contract, and City were allegedly in talks with RB Leipzig about Olmo’s availability prior to the tournament in Germany.
Meanwhile, The Sun reports that both City and Tottenham Hotspur are willing to activate the £60 million release clause in Crystal Palace player Eberechi Eze’s contract. Gareth Southgate has used the Englishman off the bench at Euro 2024, but his Premier League performances last season suggest he might start if called up for the Three Lions.
The 26-year-old scored 11 goals in 27 league appearances last season and, if signed, would provide a new dimension to City’s attack. That appears to be a major concern at this point, given that Palace has already lost Michael Olise.
Undoubtedly, the Eagles will push hard to convince Eze to stay, even if his release clause is invoked this summer.
