Man City reject Man United’s two-player request as Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting campaign continues.
Manchester City reportedly left Sir Jim Ratcliffe red-faced.
According to sources, Manchester City declined a cheeky request from Manchester United to provide transportation for two of their players to next week’s Ballon d’Or presentation. The reigning champs will bring a sizable delegation to the glamorous event in Paris on Monday evening.
According to the Daily Mail, City has booked a private plane to transport their players over the Channel. According to the report, United asked if there was room for Kopa Trophy nominees Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
According to reports, United believed that sending only two players on a private plane would reflect poorly on the club in the present context. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, they were informed that City had no spare accommodation on their trip to accommodate their players.
United will need to make their own arrangements to ensure Garnacho and Mainoo can attend the event.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has overseen a number of cost-cutting initiatives since acquiring a minority ownership in the club at the end of last year. In his quest to restore United to its former glory, the INEOS CEO has made it a priority to cut superfluous expenses.
United fired 250 employees earlier this year, and certain employee benefits have been decreased or eliminated entirely. The bulk of employees’ access to private cars has been revoked, and those with hybrid working arrangements have been directed to return to the office.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that Ratcliffe had cancelled United’s plans to host a Christmas party for its employees. The players’ celebration is expected to go ahead unless Erik ten Hag decides to cancel it following a disastrous start to the season.
Sir Alex Ferguson has also been divested of his ambassadorial duties as part of United’s cost-cutting efforts. The iconic Scot was reportedly notified two weeks ago that he would no longer be paid his multimillion-pound contract at the end of the season.
Ferguson was reportedly informed of the changes at a face-to-face meeting with Ratcliffe, however he is set to remain a non-executive director at Old Trafford.
