During the transfer window, an unusual swap agreement always piques people’s interest. Manchester City may be poised to get creative in their pursuit to sign one of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders.

Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes has been the subject of frequent transfer rumors in recent months, with the Magpies staying fast on their £100 million value for the Brazil international.

Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s City have both been connected with the 26-year-old, who has recently been a target for teams in the Saudi Pro League and MLS.

Guimaraes has been a significant player for Newcastle since his £40 million move from Lyon in 2022, and Toon manager Eddie Howe knows he will be crucial to the Mapgies’ bid to return to Europe in the coming season.

According to the Daily Star, City are hesitant to match Newcastle’s £100 million asking price for the midfielder, valuing him closer to £80 million, but this transfer deadlock could be broken by the Premier League champions’ willingness to loan out one of their best young players as a sweetener.

According to the report, City are ready to loan either Rico Lewis or Oscar Bobb to the Magpies next season to assist broker a deal, with Newcastle reportedly keen in both.

While City will not consider selling either 19-year-old Lewis or 20-year-old Bobb, who they regard as essential to their future, they would be willing to let one of them go this season to help bring in a top-tier central midfielder.

Lewis, who made his full England debut last season, has made 50 appearances for City in all competitions over the last two seasons and can play at full-back or midfield, while Bobb broke into City’s first-team picture last season, making 26 appearances, mostly from the bench, and scoring two goals.
