For others, coming to Manchester City isn’t always as glamorous as it seems.

Many young players arrive with the aim of competing at the greatest level, but this typically comes with more danger than gain.

Clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea are continuously looking for the next great thing, with hundreds of adolescents arriving from all over the world in the hopes of making their dreams come true. What if it doesn’t work out?

Felix Correia left Sporting Lisbon’s prestigious academy in 2019, heading across Europe to join Manchester City.

However, after numerous loan periods and no first-team avenue to work directly with Pep Guardiola, who is placed fifth on FourFourTwo’s list of the greatest managers of all time, Correia decided that life at the Etihad Stadium was not all it was cracked up to be.

“I would have stayed [in Lisbon],” stated the now-23-year-old during an interview with O Jogo about his time in England.

“But these are very different times, with a different focus and organization, and everyone sees Sporting’s future differently.

“Today, I would have stayed. My perspective was radically different, which made it much easier for me to travel abroad, live alone, and have other experiences in my life than sports.

“I believe that was quite essential. In other words, I’m a completely different Felix now.”Former Manchester City star Felix Correia

Correia is correct to underline the risk of coming to such a large club at such a young age, and who knows, perhaps his moment at the very top level will come, given that he is still only 23.

Manchester City return to Premier League action this weekend, when they face Southampton at home.
