According to rumors, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson ‘was touched by adulation’ for teammate Stefan Ortega and may now quit the Eithad Stadium this summer.

The Citizens face losing the Brazilian international this summer, with heavy interest in the 30-year-old from the Saudi Pro League.

According to Football Insider, Ederson has been offered a’massive’ contract to relocate to Saudi Arabia, and a ‘transfer is now a live possibility’ for the Brazilian.

It is understood that Manchester City and Pep Guardiola ‘are keen on keeping Ederson at the club and are ready to offer him an extension to remain with the Premier League champions.’

However, Guardiola intimated earlier this week that Ederson’s departure is possible, with the Manchester City manager waiting to “see what happens” in the summer.

Guardiola told a press conference: “I don’t know – he needs to look into other options. Of course, I want him to stay. Depends now on the clubs. I’m not sure what’s going on; I haven’t heard anything in the last few days. A question about

Manchester City are demanding roughly £50 million for one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with Ederson’s contract expiring in the summer of 2026.

The Athletic published an article headlined ‘Why are Manchester City willing to sell Ederson and why does he want to go?’. They also explained why Manchester City’s asking price is so low:

‘You would question why City, who were so keen to keep him, didn’t just want twice that amount. The difficulty here, however, is that Ederson wishes to leave, and the club recognises this. While they do not want it to happen, they do not want to price a player who wants to leave out of a move.

‘When Ortega signed a new deal in June, he was well aware of the circumstances involving his teammate and knew Ederson may go. Ortega believed that Ederson’s possible departure would improve his own chances of becoming No. 1. While talks with Ortega, who was supposed to leave, continued, City planned a move for a No. 2 goalkeeper in case he was needed, a deal that may yet come into play.

‘Apart from the large quantities of money on offer, something else shifted in the final weeks of the season. Ederson was influenced by the accolades Ortega received for his outstanding one-on-one save against Tottenham’s Son Heung-min in the season’s penultimate encounter.

‘That moment, four minutes from the end of

‘Ortega’s stunning spread-eagle save saved City from a massive shock — Guardiola fell to his back as Son went through — and allowed him to revel in a tidal wave of appreciation. Part of that adulation, mostly from supporters, implied that Ederson himself would not have saved it.

‘Ederson had been forced off early in the match after taking a massive knock to the head while defending against a Tottenham onslaught. In the days following the event, as the repercussions centered on Ortega, he shared two photographs of his contributions to the match on Instagram, with the statement, “No one understands, but me. “See you soon.”‘
