Arsenal have received a significant boost as Mikel Merino returned to first-team training ahead of their Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening.

Merino joined the Emirates from Spanish club Real Sociedad this summer in a deal worth up to £31.6 million, but he hasn’t had the best start in north London.

The midfielder has yet to make his Arsenal debut after suffering a shoulder injury in his first training session, and with Martin Odegaard sidelined, the Gunners have been short on midfield depth.

Arsenal get a huge Merino boost.
After impressing for Spain as they won Euro 2024, it appears that Arsenal fans will not have to wait long to see Merino.

Merino was back in first-team training ahead of Arsenal’s match against PSG, according to journalist Kaya Kaynak, and was spotted with Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu, providing a significant boost to Mikel Arteta.

Fabrizio Romano subsequently confirmed Kaynak’s report, calling the news “excellent” for Arteta.

Merino hasn’t played football since July, and Arteta is likely to ease him back into action after his injury layoff.

His imminent return will provide the Gunners with another much-needed midfield option as they try to balance a hectic schedule.

After drawing their first Champions League game against Atalanta, the Gunners will be hoping to get three points, but they face a daunting task against the French champions.

Winger Ousmane Dembele will miss the game due to disciplinary issues, which will improve their chances, but PSG still has a lot of talent and will be a tough test.
