Other Teams
Newcastle United’s rivals Manchester United make offer for 150-goal man following Erik ten Hag decision.
Van Nistelrooy is in Manchester ahead of his projected return to Old Trafford, where he will join Ten Hag’s coaching team. The former PSV Eindhoven manager has been without a job since leaving the Eredivisie club in May 2024, and he was recently connected with taking over from Vincent Kompany at Burnley until Scott Parker was announced as the new manager.
Van Nistelrooy’s appointment to the coaching staff comes after Manchester United confirmed that Ten Hag has signed a contract extension, despite widespread speculation that he would leave his role as manager after leading the Red Devils to their worst ever Premier League finish last season – though their FA Cup final victory over local rivals Manchester City ensured that they would play European football next season at Newcastle United’s expense. Rene Hake, who most recently led Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands, is also slated to join Old Trafford this summer.
Newcastle United will face Manchester United at Old Trafford in late December, with the return leg at St James’ Park set for mid-April.
