Struggling Celtic man on the move again this summer as Rangers eye ‘bidding war’ for veteran star
Celtic and Rangers will shortly return to play, with the Hoops facing Queen’s Park in a pre-season friendly. Brendan Rodgers’ team will then face DC United, Manchester City, and Chelsea as they prepare to start the 2024/25 season as Scottish Champions once more.

Rangers, meanwhile, face Ajax in the Netherlands this Saturday, although the club’s focus is currently on where they could be based for the first few months of next season while Ibrox is renovated.

While we wait to see if the Gers will return to Hampden Park for their first home games of the 2024/25 season, here’s the latest transfer news from Glasgow…

Despite his current loan arrangement with SC Internacional in Brazil, Celtic star Alexandro Bernabei is expected to transfer again this summer. The Argentine left-back ended his Celtic career in March, agreeing to a deal with the Serie A club after failing to secure a regular role under Brendan Rodgers.

The £3.5 million acquisition made only nine first-team appearances under Rodgers and was told he may leave the club in January. No club approached him, but four months ago, a deal was ultimately made with the Brazilian club until the end of their season in December.

However, journalist Matias Martinez claims that the 23-year-old defender is a target for a team in his native Argentina. According to reports, Independiente has already begun talks with the Hoops about a prospective loan deal. Bernabei would be free to leave his current Brazilian club, for whom he has made only one appearance, in August under an escape provision contained in the agreement earlier this year.

The defender, who is frequently replaced at Parkhead by Greg Taylor, hopes to get additional experience before returning to the Hoops next year.

Rangers prepare for ‘bidding war’
Rangers are expected to see their list of prospective suitors for Connor Goldson shrink if a ‘bidding war’ breaks out.

The Gers’ head coach, Philippe Clement, is undertaking a significant roster overhaul this summer, and the club is thought to be open to bids for several key players, with both James Tavernier and Goldson rumored to be rejoining with ex-Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Pro League.

However, the latest reports suggest that Goldson, 31, might be linked with a move to Birmingham City, with the Blues ready to invest massively this month to assure an immediate return to the English Championship.

According to the Birmingham Mail, “considerations like transfer fees and wages for an older player will come into the equation,” which may throw a significant wrench in the works. Similarly, it is stated that the club would be concerned if a bidding war broke out with Gerrard’s Saudi team, and would so ‘probably not’ pursue a transaction.
