49ers Likely to Cut Deebo Samuel with Post-June-1 Designation.
The San Francisco 49ers may be parting ways with star wide receiver Deebo Samuel this offseason. While the team’s initial goal was to trade Samuel, a post-June-1 release is becoming increasingly likely, according to NFL.com’s Matt Okada.
Samuel’s production declined in 2024, with only 806 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns. His struggles with drops, fumbles, and rushing efficiency further complicate his situation. The 49ers have already committed to Brandon Aiyuk as their primary receiver, and a post-June-1 cut of Samuel would free up $5.1 million in cap space.
Despite his unique skill set, Samuel’s trade value may be limited due to his recent performance and contract. If the 49ers cannot find a suitable trade partner, releasing him after June 1st appears to be the most financially sensible option.
This move would mark a significant change for the 49ers’ offense, potentially impacting their depth and versatility. However, it could also provide the team with financial flexibility to address other needs.
