BREAKING NEWS;  A man stole post, which includes bank cards and a Chelsea FC membership from a Woking complex of flats.

A man took mail, including bank cards and a Chelsea FC membership card, from a block of flats in Woking. Vassim Aslam, 51, has been imprisoned for four years and nine months for fraud and burglary in Surrey and London.

Aslam, of Haringey, was sentenced after pleading guilty to 12 charges of burglary, one count of perverting the course of justice, and one count of being equipped. Between May and October 2023, tenants of a Woking apartment complex noticed that their letters were disappearing.

BREAKING NEWS;  A man stole post, which includes bank cards and a Chelsea FC membership from a Woking complex of flats.

CCTV footage taken from the premises showed a guy entering the facility, opening the letter boxes with master keys, and collecting post before fleeing in a Vauxhall Zafira.

An inquiry was initiated, and additional inquiries linked Aslam to these burglaries; he was arrested on suspicion of burglary on Walton High Street on Thursday, November 23, 2023. When he was searched, officers discovered a fixed penalty notice, a Chelsea FC membership card, and two bank cards with different names and addresses. He also held £1,765 in cash.
When detectives searched his vehicle, they discovered other letters and bank cards in other people’s names from various addresses in Surrey and London. They also discovered 18 Ascot race tickets, Newbury racecourse tickets, the cap shown on CCTV, three phones, and a number of SIM cards.

PC Iona King, the investigating officer, stated, “We are conscious of the impact burglaries and fraud can have on our communities, and we will remain steadfast in our efforts to combat such crime. The team worked extremely hard to gather the evidence needed to prove Vassim Aslam’s crime not just in Surrey but also in London, and to guarantee he was brought to justice.

“PC Tom Hinch deserves special commendation for his involvement in driving this investigation and determining the scope of Mr Aslan’s conduct. We would also want to thank the members of the public who submitted information about Aslam’s wrongdoing; without it, we would not have been able to put together our case.”
