Following a good loan spell, the Hoops could bring him back into the first team next season.

The summer transfer window opens later this month, and Celtic will have the option to bolster their team.

Brendan Rodgers may seek to the market to upgrade his team in a variety of ways in order to push on and challenge for additional championships the next season.

The Hoops won the Scottish Premiership and the SFA Cup in 2023/24, but they could look for additional success next season, particularly on the European stage.

However, the Northern Irish manager may improve his squad without spending millions of pounds on a new signing by bringing loanee Mikey Johnston back into the picture.

The Ireland international played the first part of the season with Celtic, appearing in only nine Premiership games, three of which were starts.

In those nine games, the 5’9 genius scored twice and created two ‘huge opportunities’ for his teammates, demonstrating that he had the potential to make a significant influence in the final third.

Instead of giving him more opportunity to shine, Rodgers loaned him out to West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship.

As shown in the table above, Johnston excelled with consistent playing time while on loan with the Baggies, demonstrating his ability to score and create goals.

During Sky Sports’ coverage of West Brom’s 3-1 play-off semi-final loss to Southampton (17/05/24), pundit Gary Weaver hailed the forward as having “magic in his boots,” which was followed up by his team’s sole goal in the match.

Rodgers may save millions by putting Johnston in the Celtic first team next season, which would eliminate the need to spend a large transfer fee on a new winger to bolster the squad.
