Celtic are considering re-signing Stuart Armstrong following his stunning release from Southampton at the conclusion of the season.

On the current episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Armstrong, 32, has emerged as a potential alternative for the Scottish title winners and is very much on their radar.

However, insiders indicate Brendan Rodgers will want major transfer market support if his club is to make an impression in Europe.

As a result, the club will first search for alternatives to Armstrong, with younger players on their radar who can develop and grow their careers at Parkhead.

Kieran Maguire, a finance specialist, told Football Insider that Celtic’s Champions League qualification will have given them “rocket boosters” to their budget.

Celtic are considering a trade move for Stuart Armstrong from Southampton.
Armstrong has become available on a free transfer after leaving Southampton, opening the door to a return to Celtic after six years away.

The midfielder joined the English club in 2018 for £7 million and has since made 214 Premier League and Championship appearances.

He appeared in 45 games this season, scoring six and assisting seven, as he helped the Saints return to the Premier League.
Armstrong competed in the Champions League and Europa League during his stint at Parkhead, winning four SPFL crowns, two Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups.

That winning experience, combined with his European knowledge and past great affinity with the supporters, has raised the likelihood of a comeback this summer.
