Chelsea is closing in on their sixth summer transfer deal, as Enzo Maresca continues his reconstruction at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed to buy Atlanta United teenager Caleb Wiley.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the 19-year-old left-back is set to join Chelsea for £8.5 million. His contract is expected to last until 2031, and a development plan has already been put in place.

The Blues aim to send Wiley on loan to Strasbourg next season to give him additional first-team experience in Europe before incorporating him into the Chelsea group. The transfer to Stamford Bridge culminates a thrilling few days for the American.

On Monday, Wiley was named to the United States Olympic team for the Paris Games. The full-back is highly regarded in American football circles and has already been capped twice by the national squad, but he was not selected for the Copa America this year.

In the MLS, Wiley has already established himself as a first-team player, appearing in 84 games for Atlanta. During that span, he scored six goals and assisted seven times.

While Wiley primarily plays as a left back, he has also played on the left side of midfield and as a left winger. Chelsea’s move for the American is considered to have benefited from the club’s close ties with Atalanta.
