Cole Palmer’s performance versus the Netherlands was unprecedented in European Championship history.

Cole Palmer, as he did for Chelsea last season, is making an impression for England at Euro 2024.

Cole Palmer has yet to start a game for England at the European Championship.

However, without the Chelsea attacker, they may not make it to Sunday’s final.

Palmer set up Ollie Watkins’ goal against the Netherlands, making the score 2-1 for England and sending Gareth Southgate’s side to Berlin to face Spain.

Despite his young age of 22, Palmer has already established himself as a playmaker. Last season, for Chelsea, he had 15 assists in 45 appearances. Prior to the Netherlands encounter, Southgate emphasized Palmer’s importance when he came on from the bench.

Watkins’ goal came in the 90th minute, thus it is fair to argue England left it too late.

Again, Palmer set up the Aston Villa striker, and in doing so, he created a small piece of history.

It’s unlikely that everyone will remember the feat, but the former Manchester City player may be proud.

After all, Palmer was not even a full England international when the 2023/24 season began. He is now one game away from becoming the European champion.

Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins’ statistics for Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Both Palmer and Watkins were bench players for England at the Euros, but at Chelsea and Villa, they are among the first names on the squad sheet.

The figures the England duo put up in the Premier League last season were remarkable.

Palmer had 33 goal contributions, whereas Watkins had one fewer.

To have that on the bench demonstrates how talented this England side is. Given that and the opponents they faced, reaching the Euro 2024 semi-finals had to be Southgate’s minimum goal.
