On the last day of the Premier League season, Liverpool bid adieu to Jürgen Klopp, with the Reds legend’s departure ceremony turning out to be more well-liked than Man City’s victory celebrations.

Manchester City won the title on the last day of the 2023–2024 Premier League season for the fourth consecutive year, yet it’s probable that Anfield matches piqued the attention of UK football supporters more.

Jürgen Klopp was leaving Liverpool on the same day Pep Guardiola and his team won the cup for the fourth consecutive year. After defeating West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, City won the championship and went on to win 23 straight games without losing since the first week of December of previous year.

In the meanwhile, Klopp’s squad defeated Wolves 2-0 to cap off a season in which they won the Carabao Cup in February, finished third and were back in the Champions League. Even still, it’s starting to become apparent that, for a team experiencing such success, City’s national appeal may not match their accomplishment of becoming the first side in English football history to win the top division title four times in a row.

Sky Sports reports that more people watched Manchester City vs. West Ham United than watched Liverpool vs. Wolves. The average viewership for the City vs. West Ham match was 1.27 million, with a peak of 1.51 million. The average number of viewers for the Reds’ game was 901,00, reaching a peak of 1.07 million.

The viewership numbers for the matches itself don’t truly convey the entire story. According to the Express, 54% of people watched City’s play on Sky Sports Main Event, while 39% watched Liverpool’s match on Sky Sports Premier League.

But there was a dramatic change in the number of viewers between 6-7pm, when City was raising their trophy and Liverpool was saying goodbye to Klopp at an event at Anfield. More individuals
