In the League Cup group stage, Inverness Caledonian Thistle will compete against the top seeds.

The Caley Jags have been drawn against Dundee, the only club from last season’s Premiership top six to advance to the group stages.

They will compete in Group D, as will Arbroath, who will join Inverness in sliding down to League One from the Championship for the next season.

Ross County, meanwhile, faces a repetition of the Premiership play-off final after being drawn in the same group as Championship runners-up Raith Rovers.

Kirkcaldy will be out for vengeance in Group H, having fallen short against the Staggies in their bid to reach the top level.

In addition, newcomers Hamilton Academical and Stirling Albion will face Stranraer for the second year in a row.

Both Highland teams have a history in the competition, with Caley Thistle reaching the final in 2014 before losing to Aberdeen on penalties, and Ross County winning the title in 2016.

Last year, however, the Caley Jags were eliminated in the group stage following a dismal performance, coming fourth in their group behind Airdrieonians, Dundee, and Dumbarton.

The Staggies finished first in their group, defeating Morton, Stranraer, and Edinburgh City while picking up a point against Kelty Hearts.

The first matches of this year’s group stage will take place on the weekend of July 13/14, with the order of games to be decided in due time.
