Manchester United star ‘questioned Erik ten Hag’s attitude’ before quitting the club.

Erik ten Hag faced an uncertain future before being given Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s trust ahead of next season, but some of his existing stars had plenty of doubts about the Dutchman.
Raphael Varane and Casemiro were among the ‘dissenting voices’ at Manchester United who opposed Erik ten Hag’s techniques until Sir Jim Ratcliffe opted to continue with him.

The Dutchman’s future at the club was questionable following a disastrous second season at Old Trafford. However, Ratcliffe has decided to continue with Ten Hag following a post-season evaluation.

He is currently in negotiations for a new deal with the Red Devils. However, that decision may not go down well with a couple of Manchester United players.

According to The Athletic, former Real Madrid players Varane and Casemiro were not especially impressed by Ten Hag’s philosophy. According to reports, the pair discussed with teammates about Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane’s approach in Spain.

They argued that Real Madrid gave them more freedom and ‘workload agency’, whereas Ten Hag’s positional style was disliked. The pair were taught that Manchester United were a completely different club than the Spanish Champions.

LaLiga was also classified as a slower-paced competition with less depth, thus the same strategies would not apply. Despite this, both Casemiro and Varane maintained vocal and, at times, ‘dissenting voices’.

The news comes after Ten Hag was forced to downplay a rift with the French centre-back last season. In November, he asked: “Rapha Varane?” I’m not sure what you’re talking about. It is a rumour. Very essential player, but there is internal competition, which is expected at a strong club like ours.”It has since been revealed that Varane will depart Old Trafford at the end of his contract. He wrote an impassioned farewell to the club before making his final Red Devils appearance in the FA Cup final.

“To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it’s been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt,” stated Varane.

“The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player, the atmosphere was incredible.

“I fell in love with the club and the fans. You have to play for Manchester United to appreciate what that entails. For my children, this is home. It’s going to be a significant spot for me throughout my life.
