Newcastle United remain stuck over sporting director Dan Ashworth, who is still on gardening leave after stating his wish to resign.

Manchester United’s transfer plans have stalled due to the ongoing Dan Ashworth crisis, according to sources.

Newcastle United and the Red Devils continue to disagree on a compensation plan for the sporting director. As it stands, Ashworth is still on gardening leave despite expressing his wish to quit in February.

The former Brighton manager only arrived on Tyneside less than two years ago, but he will join Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos-backed revolution at Old Trafford. However, when that will occur has yet to be determined, and Ashworth must currently wait until January 2026.

That is unless Manchester United can breach the deadlock with Toon chiefs over the settlement. Newcastle initially held out for £20million and have shown no sign of lowering their demands.
