‘The best English player previous season’: what is your thoughts on Palmer at Euros

We asked for your thoughts on Cole Palmer and the fact that the Chelsea forward has yet to play a minute for England at Euro 2024; should he play, and what difference would he make?

Here are some of the responses:

Martin: The best English player last season by a country mile; of course he should play.

Josh: Cole. Palmer’s abilities are similar to Hazard’s; he can shift the dynamics of a game on his own. We are missing something with our players, where one person can change the game. Perhaps Southgate’s underwhelming playing style, but Palmer is a young player with little to lose.

Tom: Yes, he should play! How can you leave out a midfielder who finished second to Haaland for the golden boot when the team needs goals and creativity? It’s typical of England to sit on one of their most promising young players and not even field him when the team is struggling.

Geoff: Palmer was the Premier League’s second-highest scorer, yet he’s on the bench for England, which amazes me. Bring him on later to shake things up. He makes things happen and is driven to move forward.

Tom: I absolutely admire Cole Palmer and believe he should have started, but I don’t think he’s the answer as a starter because he’s another 10 like Bellingham who can also operate on the right like Saka – neither of them deserve to be dropped. If you play him on the left, it’s just another square peg in a round hole. Give Gordon a chance.
